How
we make jewelry and how you are involved. |
Some of the pieces we have made in the past. |
Something we made recently that we'd like you to see. |

The
Concept |
|
Wax |
|
We
begin the jewelry designing process with sketches, doodles and
discussions. As you learn how the jewelry is made your ideas
will blossom and evolve. |
 |
To become
jewelry these ideas must be made in wax. The wax models will
show us exactly what we will get in metal. There are many ways
to carve wax models. |

We use
a combination of hand carving and computer controlled milling
machine. Machine carving allows us to acheive precision that
is not possible by hand.We often use a combination of both appropriate
to the design. |

Getting
Ready to Cast |
|
 |
Once a wax is approved
and finalized it is suspended in a pipe and surrounded with
plaster. We then put this piece in the oven to burn out the
wax out. This leaves a negative space exactly the shape of the
wax for the metal to fill. |

The Fun Part |
|
| |
To cast the jewelry
we use a centrafuge. Casting is the only spectacular part of
jewelry making so we invite customers to come in and cast their
jewelry. Often, if we are making a wedding set for a couple
they will melt the gold for each other's rings. see

Cut
and Polished |
 |
When the jewelry is first cast the shape is there, but it
is ugly. It takes a bit of grunt work on our part to grind,
smooth, polish and set any stones. But, the results are worth
it! |
